Review: Power Rangers In Space

Posted by ebyam07 Oct. 31, 2008 @ 5:20 PM EDT

Ok, so Power Rangers in Space picks up exactly where Turbo left off, with them rocketing into space after Divatox and Zordon. They get into space and somehow get onboard a spaceship where Red Space Ranger Andros gets into a fight with them. After a little while they manage to convince him that their on his side and he gives them all new morphers. You know, the usual crap.

Oh, and I think it's worth noting that the main villan in this series, Dark Specter, is actually scary (at least for little kids). He pretty much looks a remade verison of Maligore from the Turbo Rangers movie, but whatever.

So for most of the seires, the Rangers are looking all over the place for Zordan, who Astronema (Dark Specter's lackee and the new villan) has Divatox lugging from planet to planet in order to keep the Rangers away from him. Because aparently, Dark Specter wants to drain Zordon's life force or something and become the ultimate being in the galaxy blah, blah, blah. So while Divatox is planet hopping, Astronema is pulling a Rita and sending monster after monster down to Earth to keep the Rangers busy.

But by far the most awesome enemies that any team of Power Rangers have ever had to face were the Psyco Rangers. Their fight went on for like 10 episodes, and they were so good that they were brought back in the next Power Rangers series!

So somewhat early on in the series we're introduced to Zhane, the Silver Space Ranger, who Andros froze when he was wounded in battle. He kicks some serious ass, but still manages to get kidnapped by the Psyco Rangers, who the real Rangers eventually destroy...at least, they think they do. MUAH HA HA HA-um...sorry bout that. Halloween. Fuckin with my brain.

Ok so big surprise, Astronema turns out to be Andros' long lost sister Karone! Gasp! Dark Specter took her as a baby and had her raised evil or some shit like that. After discovering this she denounces Dark Specter and goes to join her brother and the other Rangers. This doesn't last long though, as a sadistic bounty hunter kidnaps and re-brainwashes her against the Rangers. Naturally, Andros doesn't take that too well.

Now we get onto the good part, the two part finale, which in my personal opinion is the best finale of any Power Ranger series ever. Seriously.

All hope seems lost when Dark Specter completely absorbs Zordon's energy and attacks Earth, and the Power Rangers get gang raped by bad guys. Seriously, their Zords get completely oblitorated. So what do they do? They go into hiding! Great plan guys!

Meanwhile, Astronema's bff Darkronda decides that he's sick of being Dark Specter and Astronema's bitch, so he blows the shit out of Dark Specter with a weapon meant to oblitorate the Earth, giving Zordon back his power. That's pretty bad timing on his part.

So Andros decides, hey, I think I'm going to pay my sister, the new Queen of Evil, a visit. Maybe she'll be willing to be a good guy again! He sets his brilliant plan into action and leaves the others to deal with the chaos on Earth.

So Andros sneaks into the Dark Fortress and finds Zordon who tells him to destroy his tubey thing because it's the last hope for the universe. Of COURSE it is. So naturally, Andros makes Zordan go boom, big shiney explosion, and all evil in the universe in one fell swoop. Wow! That's killing two trillion birds with one stone! (Sorry bout that one)

So in the end, Karone is good again, evil is gone (for a few monts anyway) and the Rangers return to Earth to live happily ever after...I guess.

Power Rangers in Space is one of my favorite Power Ranger series, and the reason is clear if you watched the show. It's just...good. Really really good.

Overall Rating: 9/10

.

Next up is the last of the good Power Ranger seasons (for a while anyways) Power Rangers Lost Galaxy.

Review: Power Rangers Turbo

Posted by ebyam07 Oct. 25, 2008 @ 8:42 PM EDT

I'm doing this review a little earlier than I thought I would, just because I want to finish these up before I get bored =P.

All right so the show starts off pretty much exactly where the movie left off. Tommy, Kat, Tanya, and Adam are graduating from high school and everything is fine and dandy until Divatox, still pissed at them for killing her fiance, sends in these weird armored fish things and other monsters to attack them. Pretty much the same old stuff.

Meanwhile, Zordan says that he and Alpha must return to his home planet of Eltar because they need his help or something, and the Rangers are left in the care of Dimitria (whose supposed to be Divatox's sister or something) and Alpha 6. Remember, Alpha 5 left with Zordon, and when he did, I was genuinely glad. I hated Alpha. Really. But believe it or not, the new Alpha is even MORE annoying than the old Alpha! He talk's like a New Yorker and bugs the crap out of me.

Ok whatever. So next their joined by the Blue Senturion, a robocop knockoff that helps them out on occasion and talks about some prophecy that fortells the events of Power Rangers in Space, but we'll get into that later.

Then, something unexpected happens. In the episode "Passing the Torch," Tommy is kidnapped in an attempt to weaken the rest of the Rangers. When he is rescued, he has some inner revelation or something and, along with Adam, Tanya, and Kat, resigns from the team. Tomy is replaced by TJ, Tanya is replaced by Ashley, Adam is replaced by Carlos, and Kat is replaced by Cassie. Oh and Justin's still there. He's a little brat though so whatever.

After the switcheroo, they are joined by the Phantom Ranger (who's identity is never reveled) who supposedly got his powers from Zordon's home planet of Eltar.

So towards the end of the seiries, the Rangers get their asses kicked and their Zords destroyed by some badass monster named Goldgoyle. TJ eventually kills him by shooting a Turbo something or other down his throat and detonating it.

The Rangers go back to celebrate, only to have the Power Chamber destroyed by Divatox and her army of Pirhannatrons (those weird robo fish things). The Rangers lose their powers and Divatox is just about to take over the world when she recieves a message to go into space to the Council of Evil or something like that and that Zordon has been captured.

On the last episode (which would be the last Power Ranger episode to have the Rangers cross over into the next seires), TJ, Ashley, Carlos, and Cassie manage to secure a space shuttle and blast into space after Divatox and Zordon. Justin decides to stay behind with his father.

Speaking of parents, did you guys ever wonder, where, throughout the entire series, these kids parents are? I mean, what parent in their right mind wouldn't wonder where their child was all the time? Are they all orphans? It doen't make any sense!

Jeez! Ok, calm down...so, overall, Turbo wasn't a bad series. It had a cliffhanger ending which let you know what to expect next, and it made me genuinely excited to find out what happened to them.

Overall Rating: 7.5/10

Oh, and by the way, this theme song was and still is the shortest Power Ranger theme song, clocking in at about 30 seconds.

.

Next up we get into the last series with Zordon, with the best ending of any Power Ranger series yet: Power Rangers in Space.

Reveiw: Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie

Posted by ebyam07 Oct. 18, 2008 @ 6:20 PM EDT

This was the last of the Power Ranger movies, which is surprising, because they could of made a lot of money if they'd done a movie for every one. Maybe not theatrical releases, but...whatever. I'm getting off track.

Okay, so at the beginning of the movie, the evil space pirate chick Divatox (who was surprisingly hot) was hatching a plan to save her fiancee Maligore who is trapped in a volcanic island on Earth. To get him out she needs the powers and magical key of Lerigot, a creature that looks like a Gremlin and an Ewok's love child. Luckily for him he escapes from her sexily dastardly clutches to Earth.

So on Earth, the Rangers (who at this point still have their Zeo powers) are practicing for a martial arts tornament when Rocky throws out his back. Ouch. When the others visit him at the hospital, a little twerpy kid named Justin (who hangs around with them all of a sudden) hides under his bed and sees them teleport away to the Command Center after being called by Zordan. Rocky discovers him and sends him to help the others. Why he would send a 10 year old on an incredably dangerous mission with other teens he barely knows is beyond me.

So Zordan sends Tommy and Kat into the African wilderness to find Lerigot armed with weird metal backpacks that are apparently just like regular backpacks. I don't know or care enough to investigate. They find Lerigot and bring him back to the Command Center, only for him to willingly go to Divatox in an attempt to rescue his wife and baby that she had kidnapped.Oh Divatox. So evil, yet so hot...wait, huh? What? Sorry...drifted off for a minute there. She also managed to grab Bulk and Skull, along with two former Rangers Kimberly and Jason. Bulk and Skull lost their memory or something and are now talking with British accents. Kinda creepy.

Oh I forgot to mention, there's a scene when Tommy and Kat are in the jungle and Kat falls off a cliff into a waterfall. For some reason she morphs in midfall, thinking it would save her, but she hits the water and DEmorphs. So water short-circuts their morphers? If that's the case then why don't the bad guys just spray em with a fire hose? Whatever, I'm thinking to much about this.

So the Rangers set off to rescue their friends...and Bulk and Skull, but not before they are given new powers. Kat becomes the Pink Turbo Ranger, Adam the Green one, Tanya the Yellow one, and Tommy the Red one. Plus, this time, their Zords are actual cars! Awesome! Then Zordan sends them to an...old fashioned pirate ship...which their supposed to use to catch a high tech submarine...GAH!!! Nothing makes sense! Oh and Justin joins them as the Blue Turbo Ranger.

Fortunately, they arrive on Maligore's island...just in time to see Kimberly and Jason sacrificed into the volcano. Whoops! Maybe next time you'll take a plane or at least a modern boat! Jeez! But don't worry, their not dead, their just brainwashed and evil. Much better! They fight for a while until Lerigot turns them good again (aww, I was hoping to see bloodshed).

So long story short, Maligore escapes and grows huge, the Rangers call on their new Zords and beat him to death, go home, and win the martial arts tournament with Jason replacing Rocky. And everyone lives happily ever after! Except of course for Divatox, whose pissed at the Rangers for oblitorating her fiancee (who was by the way a giant lava monster) and swears vengence. You know, the usual.

All in all, kind of a lame movie. The first one was much better. It does succeed though in bridging the gap between Zeo and Turbo. I missed it in theaters and I had no idea what was happening when the show came back on.

Overall Rating: 5/10

Next we get into the series spawned from this movie: Power Rangers Turbo.

Review: Power Rangers Zeo

Posted by ebyam07 Oct. 5, 2008 @ 11:15 AM EDT

Sorry for the hiatus, but we now push forward with Power Rangers Zeo! All right, so the command center was destroyed. Alpha and Zordan are thought dead, and the Power Rangers are powerless. So the kids do the most logical thing they can think of: step into the flaming rubble and dig around in the heavy cement slabs looking for a robot and a floating head in a jar. Brilliant.

They find the zeo crystal that Rito and Goldar dropped in their escape and it brings them underground and to a portal which takes them into the Power Chamber, where they find Alpha (DAMNIT) and Zordon, who had taken cover there during the explosion. There they are told (and we are shown) that Rita and Zed along with all their minions were kicked out of their base on the moon by the Machine Empire, led by King Mondo, his bitchy wife, and his bratty kid, who all have British accents for some reason.

Quick funfact, throughout the whole series, Rito and Goldar were stranded on Earth with no memory of who they were. Funny right? Right...all righty...moving on!

Alpha gives the rangers their new powers: Kat becomes pink, Tanya, the new girl, becomes yellow, Rocky becomes blue, Adam becomes green, and Tommy becomes red. They all have shapes on their helmets too, which is weird in itself, but Kat has an oval, Rocky's got a triangle, Adam's got a rectangle, and Tommy's got a star. But Tayna got the shit end of the stick. For some reason, they ran out of shapes and she got an equal sign. Yeah! This =! What about circles? What about squares? Hell, even octagons would have been better than a freakin equal sign! It's embarrising!

Sigh. Sorry. Rant over. Oh, and in case your wondering where Billy went, he gave his crystal to Tanya and became their "technical advisor". Translation: He wanted a bigger paycheck, they said now, he quit, wanted back in, had been replaced, so settled for a menial position.

Anyways, as the show went on, sometimes the rangers were helped by the Gold Ranger (his symbol is just some weird tribal thing or some shit like that) and it wasn't untill later that they learned that the Gold Ranger was actually some alien named Trey of Triforia. He got hurt and wanted to pass the powers onto someone else. Naturally, I along with everyone else belevied he would pass his powers onto Billy, but it turns out that: "had unintentionally gained negative proton energy from a machine he built to become an adult again in the Alien Rangers series." had unintentionally gained negative proton energy from a machine he built to become an adult again in the Alien Rangers series." (wikipedia page). See what I mean? Poor Billy.

Anyways, they ended up giving the powers to Jason, the original Red Ranger. That was a pretty cool idea. It was awesome to see them side by side in action again. Billy, pissed off by being rejected as a ranger agian (at least that's what I thought) left to go to Aquatar. With the Alien Rangers. WHY???? And as the series wrapped up, Jason gave his powers back to Trey because they were draining his life. Ouch! And the best part was that Rita and Zed ended up destroying the Machine Empire themselves! Hilarious! And what do they do after fighting for an entire season to get their throne back? Why, go on vacation of course!

All and all, zeo wasn't a bad series. It's theme song was a remix of the original in a GOOD way. The guitar at the end was sweet. Adding Jason to the mix gives them bonus points.

Overall Score: 8/10

My reveiw of Mighty Morphin Alien Rangers

Posted by ebyam07 Aug. 25, 2008 @ 7:27 AM EDT

All right, this one shouldn't take too long. In 1996, Saban decided that it was done with the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and wanted to move on to a new series of Rangers, so on the show Master Vile, the father of Rita Repulsa (I know right?) turned Tommy, Adam, Kat, Aisha, and Rocky into children which took away their powers. Wow. So the kids set out to find the Zeo Crystals, the only thing that will turn them into adults again.

Meanwhile, Zordan summons the Power Rangers of Aquatar to protect Earth (which makes me wonder who's protecting Aquatar) hence the name Ailen Rangers. The show only lasted 10 episodes and it was meant as a mini series to bridge the gap between Mighty Morphin and Zeo, and that it did.

Eventually, the Rangers collect their crystals and return to their adult forms. Aisha goes to Africa for hers, but sends her friend Tanya back to Angel Grove in her place as the new Yellow Ranger. The others go to see off the Aquatar Rangers and in the few minutes their gone, Goldar and Rita's brother Rito Revolto (for some reason he's a skeleton) plant a bomb in the Command Center and steal the Zeo Crystals. The other's get there and realizing that the bomb is about to go off, Alpha and Zordon teleport the six out of the Command Center just as it explodes. And guess what? That's where it ends! Kids had to wait two months to find out if Zordan and Alpha were dead! When I saw that I was like, wtf? Thankfully, you won't have to wait that long.

I give MMAR a 6/10, mostly for the cliffhanger ending and I took a point off for the weird theme song. Just listen!

.

I mean come on! Go go Alien Rangers? That just doesn't sound right at all! Ugh. Whatever. Next review is Power Rangers Zeo.

My reveiw of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers the Movie

Posted by ebyam07 Aug. 22, 2008 @ 5:17 PM EDT

I am ashamed to say, that when this movie came out in 95 (I think) I couldn't get enough of it! I swear that I saw it so many I times I could quote it word for word. So many times that I could probably still quote it word for word today! Ugh. This movie turned me into a ZOMBIE. But it was really popular with the kids that watched the show, and it kind of paved the way for season 3 (I think it was 3. Could have been 4 Eh, whatever).

The story goes that Rita and Lord Zed are getting pissed off that the Power Rangers keep kicking their ass. Lucky for them, a giant purple meteor lands on Earth, and out comes Ivan Ooze. Scary right? Anyways, Ooze is pissed too, because Zordon sent him into space and made him miss all the terrible shit that happened on Earth or something like that. So he goes to the command center to get his revenge. Fortunately for him, the Rangers aren't there! They're out skydiving and rollerblading! (in color coded outfits of course).

Let's pause for just one second. Let me explain something. The first 10 minutes of the movie are spent watching the Rangers skydive and rollerblade. Why? Who knows?! It makes no freakin sense! The kids who were watching this were 8-12 year old boys! They don't give a shit about skydiving for charity! Come on!

Anyways, back to the reveiw. So Ivan Ooze sends some of his Oozlings (or whatever he calls his grunts there) after the rangers to keep them distracted and they get into a great big fight in a construction yard. Wow! How original! They fight only lasts a minute or two before the Rangers get their asses kicked. So what do they do? They morph into costumes they look more plastic than spandex this time.

.

So anyways, they chase down and fight the Oozlings while meanwhile, Ivan Ooze himself breaks into the Command Center, kills Alpha (I wish) and blows the shit out of Zordan's tube. Then the Rangers loose their powers and run to the CC. Zordan is lying on a bed of crystals (couldn't spring for a matress I guess) and he looks really old. Nasty. Oh sorry, anyways he tells the Rangers to go to some distant planet and get new powers. So they do. And there they fight...giant crows. All righty then. Then they get saved by some Australian chick who's ALMOST as hot as Kimberly and she takes them to get their new Ninjetti powers or some shit like that. You know, I feel sorry for Adam. His powers go from Mastadon, to Frog. He really got the shit end of the stick with that one.

So with their new powers they go back to the city and promptly own Ivan Ooze by kicking him in the crotch and throwing him into an asteriod (I'm not making this up people). Sadly when they get back to the Command Center, Zordan's dead. Whoops, guess you shouldn't have stopped for pizza on the way over huh guys? But then Tommy gets an idea, and using the most over used movie cliche ever, they use the power of their powers mixed with love or some shit like that and BAM! Zordan's alive, tube and all. Huzah.

After the movie there was still a year or so of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, which was pretty good. Overall, I'll give this movie a 6.5/10, mostly because it captures the same over the top corny acting as the show. Next review is of the mini series Mighty Morphin Alien Rangers that spanned the gap between Mighty Morphin and Zeo. Hope you enjoyed reading this reveiw!

Also, changed my profile picture! Resident Evil WOOT!

Also again, someone play Volley Bounce! It's an awesome multiplayer game but no one's ever on! For the link just check my favorites.

My reveiw of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers

Posted by ebyam07 Aug. 19, 2008 @ 7:03 PM EDT

Don't ask me why, but I have been on a Power Ranger binge lately. I can't get enough of them! So I've decided to reveiw each and every season of it, from Mighty Morphin up to Jungle Fury and beyond. So here we go, with the show that started it all.

Ok, so the story goes that Rita Repulsa, this evil witch chick, busted out of a prison Zordon had trapped her in 10,000 years ago. Now, she wants to rule the earth! What a surprise! So it turns out Zordon (a giant blue head encased in a dome) has a few tricks up his sleeves...or um...ears I guess. So he tells his gay robot Alpha to summon 5 random teenagers from a local high school which he gives magic coins with the powers of (get this) dinosaurs, that turn them into spandex clad multi colored super heroes called Power Rangers. Uh huh. Anyways, they use these powers to fight against Rita and her neverending parade of monsters. When they deafeat a monster, Rita makes it bigger, they summon robot versions of their dinosaurs called zords, fuse the zords together to make a megazord, then defeat the monster. Usually. Sometimes they get their asses handed to them. One moment that will forever live on in PR history is when Rita kidnaps another teen from the same high school the first group was from and gives him powers which turn him into the Green Ranger and he uber pwns the other rangers. That is untill they save him using the power of friendship or some shit like that. Hooray. Then he joins them and they fight Rita together. Hooray. You know, looking back at this now, this show made really no sense. It was pretty much just a marketing ploy to get kids to by the action figures based of the show (a marketing ploy I am ashamed to say I fell for). We loved it though!

Here's another matter I want to address: the multiple casting problems. In total, there were 10 different people at one time or another playing power rangers. The Red Rangers Jason and Rocky, the Pink Rangers Kimberly and Katherine, the Blue Ranger Billy, and Tommy, who played the Green, then the White Ranger. The worst of all was the matter of Zack (played by Walter Jones) and Trini (played by Thuy Trang). Zack was African American, and Trini was Asian. That's fine, but the problem came with their Ranger colors. Zack was the Black Ranger, and Trini was the Yellow Ranger. Ouch. After a season or two, they booted them and (probably in an effort to make themselves look better) they made Adam (an Asian boy) the new Black Ranger, and Aiesha (an African American girl) the new Yellow Ranger. Very clever Saban!

All together, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers was a good show. Sure the action was overdone a bit, and the lines were cornier than...well...corn chowder, but it was a good show. The best part was the theme song though:

.

Overall, I give MMPR an 8.5/10. Next time I will be reveiwing the Mighty Mophin Power Rangers movie! Hope u enjoyed reading!
